With a batching system that went obsolete in 2000, this customer was worried about losing production due to downtime with a system that was increasingly more difficult to maintain. The control system was connected to a dot matrix printer for slip information and the customer had to write out invoices on paper. We designed and developed an updated system controlled by a PLC and RSView SE Standalone Edition. Running Windows 7 with Microsoft Office, we were able to pull data from the PLC to auto-generate Invoices in Excel and print on a laser printer. The new system allows for manual control and recipe editing. Furthermore, the customer wanted the ability to use the old system as a failsafe. We were able to tie both systems to the plant with interconnect cables to allow the customer to switch as needed.
